Update 0.000000000001
hey there. It has been nearly half a year since I posted this project, and after a general rut of not wanting to get any work done and also just dealing with being busy IRL, I have finally come back with a small update to the game. Its nothing major, but I figured I would throw something out in order to confirm I am alive and working on the project. In the future, I hope to do something like this at least once every 1-2 months. That being said; the changes.
General:
A general note I want to make before going into the actual changes; for right now I will only be updating the Windows and Web versions of Basic Quest for minor updates; I will update the other versions if requested or when more substantial updates come out.
Enemies:
As noted by a player, the first boss of the game had a large amount of damage that could take down a party fairly quickly. The main culprit was his multi hit attack, Goring Horns; while the fight went smoothly if he only used it once or so, if he used it 2-3 times, especially in quick succession, it could very quickly kill most of the party, especially if he had multiple damage buffs such as from the Orcs Belly Drum or his own Reckless Attack. Goring Horns has had its damage significantly toned down as a result, and in addition can only be used after losing half his HP; the same trigger that causes his first dialogue in the fight.
Speaking of; Orcs receive two changes. The first is in their moves; I noticed while testing damage they used Belly Drum (their buff ability) a bit to often; this was simply because I had made the priority on the move the same as an attack, but had not given it any conditions, meaning there was basically a 50/50 chance of it using the move over attacking, even if already buffed. The move has been changed so it should only be used once every 3 or so turns. This should mean they should consistently use their attack (or healing if at low HP) much more often. In addition, the skill also now only buffs physical attacks now, as buffing magic attacks was pointless. As noted before, they have received a small damage nerf to also compensate, but in return the basic groups of Orcs you find before the first boss now come in pairs.
Classes:
The descriptions of a couple of the classes in the upper room has been altered to give a better sense to what I want to do with that class.
Warlock: The warlock has a new 2nd level ability: Revivification Bargain. This allows the Warlock to revive an ally for 25 MP, but Poisons the user in return. For Warlock in general, I want the class to be focused on extremely powerful abilities that are riddled with drawbacks; a class that has to carefully weigh their options and what they can afford to sacrifice. I hope to continue to develop it along this road as work on the game continues, though I don't want to get to far ahead of myself.
Paladin: Updated the wording of the Guardian ability to be more clear on how it works. For reference, the way it works is it applies a state that gives the use the Substitute special flag; this is something simply built into RPG MV, so I decided to use it as the simplest way to accomplish the goal. The way the Substitute flag works however is it only blocks for allies if they are on low HP, meaning their name and HP bar are yellow. If I can find a way to allow this to work in a different fashion in the future I will try, but for now this will work.
Companions:
Elwood; Elwood stands out from the rest of the party for his very high, and slightly over-tuned, defense. He takes next to no damage from most enemy attacks, with only a buffed Taun using his multihit being able to lay significant damage to him. Since the 2 core enemies had their attacks nerfed, Elwood himself has had his defence fairly reduced as well; he starts with a leather suit instead of a chain one, and his Oathsword no longer grants a bonus to defence, reducing it by a fair bit. He is still far and above more durable than the rest of the cast, but this should make it so he takes some damage.
Most everything else is simply working on future parts of the game not available yet. That being said I hope you enjoy this small update
